Why Bamboo – The Benefits of Bamboo

Bamboo is truly an amazing natural resource. It has been used for centuries in China and Japan; as a building material, for medicines, food and to make bamboo textile. Today, there are different methods available for producing textiles from bamboo. There is no doubt that bamboo is a highly sustainable resource. However, not all methods for textile production are as environmentally friendly.

At The Bamboo Shop we have carefully selected suppliers delivering bamboo products that are luxuriously soft, eco friendly and sustainably produced. Bamboo that is Soft, Cool, Strong, Clean and Green.

Why Bamboo - Soft

SOFT

Feathery soft with a beautiful lustre. Bamboo has a unique silky smooth texture that is similar to silk – but not as shiny or slippery. Because it is softer than the finest high thread count cotton, it is also suitable for babies and people who have sensitive skin.

Why Bamboo - Cool

COOL

As a natural fibre, bamboo is highly breathable. It is also up to 60% more absorbent than cotton and it will wicks moisture away from the body more effectively than other natural materials. These thermo-regulating properties will help you stay nice and cool in summer while keeping you warm and cozy in winter.

Why Bamboo - Strong

STRONG

Even though bamboo textile can have the softness of silk or cashmere, it is strong and highly durable. This is because the material used for bamboo textile, the moso bamboo plant boasts an impressive breaking tenacity of up to three times that of cotton.

Why Bamboo - Clean

CLEAN

Bamboo is naturally antibacterial making it less susceptible to odours than cotton. It is hypo-allergenic and naturally repels allergens such as dust mites, mould and mildew making it gentle on skin and suitable for those suffering eczema and allergies. Our full size bamboo bed sheets are 100% organic and Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified meaning they are free from harmful substances and chemicals.

Why Bamboo - Green

GREEN

Bamboo is the fastest growing plant on earth and it regenerates naturally after harvesting. Cotton is among the thirstiest crops on earth. Bamboo on the other hand needs no irrigation or fertiliser and grows naturally pesticide free due to its antimicrobial properties. Bamboo forests have a negative carbon footprint, producing even more oxygen than trees! Our bamboo bedding is manufactured using a ‘closed-loop’ process, without the use of harmful chemicals.
